CHART Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how CHART uses cookies, browser storage and similar technologies.
CHART is operated by Whitestone Analytics.

1. Summary
CHART is a secure business-to-business analytical platform. It uses essential browser storage and related technologies to provide secure login, account access, session management, navigation and core application functionality.
CHART does not currently use:
- advertising cookies;
- marketing cookies;
- analytics cookies;
- social media tracking pixels;
- behavioural advertising technologies;
- heatmaps;
- session replay tools; or
- cross-site tracking technologies.
CHART does not currently use a cookie banner because it does not intentionally use non-essential cookies or tracking technologies. If this changes, this notice will be updated and, where required, users will be asked for consent.
2. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small files stored on a user's device by a website or application.
Similar technologies can include browser storage, local storage, session storage, pixels, scripts, tags, device identifiers and technologies that store information on, or access information from, a user's device.
CHART currently relies mainly on essential browser storage rather than analytics or advertising cookies.
3. Browser storage used by CHART
CHART may use browser sessionStorage and similar essential storage to operate the application.
This may include:
| Storage or information | Purpose | Essential? | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Authentication token | Keeps the user signed in during an authenticated session and allows CHART to make authorised API requests. | Yes | Until logout, expiry, browser or session clearing, or replacement. |
| Signed-in user context | Allows the interface to show the correct account, role, access state and navigation. | Yes | Until logout, expiry, browser or session clearing, or replacement. |
| Entitlement or access context | Helps CHART determine which workspaces or features are available to the user's organisation. | Yes | During the authenticated session or until refreshed. |
| Query or cache data | Helps preserve search state, reduce unnecessary reloads and support normal use of the application. | Yes or functional | Short operational period or session-based storage, depending on implementation. |
| Navigation return context | Allows users to return from a detail page to the relevant previous search results or workspace state. | Yes or functional | Short operational period or session-based storage, depending on implementation. |
| Password reset or account flow state | Supports password reset, account provisioning or password-change journeys. | Yes | During the relevant account flow or session. |
CHART uses this storage to provide the service requested by the user. It is not used for advertising, behavioural tracking or marketing profiling.
4. Authentication and password reset emails
CHART uses account authentication to restrict access to authorised users.
CHART may send account provisioning, password reset or service-related emails using Microsoft Outlook, Azure Communication Services or related Microsoft services.
Password reset links may contain a time-limited reset token. Users should keep reset links confidential and should not forward them.
5. Map services and third-party requests
CHART may provide map-based views using MapLibre with map tiles, styles or related resources supplied by Azure Maps, TomTom or Ordnance Survey, depending on configuration.
When a map is loaded, the user's browser may request map tiles, styles, fonts or related resources from a map provider. This may expose technical information to that provider, such as:
- IP address;
- browser and device information;
- requested map tile, style or resource URL;
- approximate map area being viewed; and
- date and time of the request.
This is used to display map functionality. It is not intended for advertising or behavioural tracking by CHART.
CHART's map configuration may change over time. If a map provider sets cookies or uses non-essential storage or tracking technologies, CHART will review whether additional notice or consent is required.
6. Essential storage and consent
CHART uses essential browser storage to provide secure login and core platform functionality.
Because this storage is necessary for the service requested by authenticated users, CHART does not currently ask for separate consent for this essential storage.
If CHART later introduces non-essential cookies or similar technologies, such as analytics, advertising, marketing pixels, heatmaps or session replay, CHART will update this notice and request consent where required.
7. How users can control browser storage
Users can clear browser storage through their browser settings.
Clearing CHART's browser storage may:
- sign the user out;
- remove saved session state;
- remove navigation return context;
- require the user to sign in again; and
- interrupt password reset or account setup flows.
Browser controls vary by browser and device.
8. Changes to this notice
CHART may update this notice if:
- the application changes;
- new browser storage is introduced;
- analytics or marketing technologies are added;
- map providers or map configurations change;
- authentication, password reset or account management processes change; or
- legal or regulatory requirements change.
The updated version will be made available through the platform or other appropriate channels.
